Bismillahi Wal Hamdullillah Was Salātu Was Salāmu ‘Alā Rasūllillāhi
Ammaa Ba’d:
In continuing with this series, since today is the day of Āshūrā we mention here a number of weak ahādīth regularly quoted upon this blessed day.
“Whoever spends upon his family on the day of Āshūrā, then Allah will increase bounties upon him for the rest of the year“
(Collected by Al Baihaqi in ‘Shu’ab’ 3/366/3795 and At Tabarāni in ‘Mu’jamul Awsat 9/140-141/9298)
Grade: Dha’īf (Weak): After Imām Al Baihaqi mentions the hadīth he states: “These chains of narration though they are weak, if brought together then they give (the hadīth) strength” Shaikh Albāni follows his statement saying: “The condition of strengthening the hadīth by way of supporting chains of narrations is not fulfilled here..” he then explains in detail why. Silsilatul Ahādīth Ad Dha’īfah (6264)
Whoever fasts on the day of ‘Āshūrā then Allah will write for him the reward of sixty years of worship“
Grade: Fabricated: Imām Abu Tāhir Al Maqdisi said in Ma’rifatu Tadhkirah 1/220: “In it is Habīb Ibn Abi Habīb and he was a fabricator of hadeeth“. Ibn Al Jauzi mentions it in his book concerning fabricated hadeeth ‘Al Maudhū’āt 2/202.
“Whoever fasts on the day of ‘Āshūrā will be given the reward of ten thousand martyrs“
Grade: Fabricated: Ibnul Jauzi mentions it in ‘Al Moudhū’āt 2/202 and says: “This hadeeth is fabricated without doubt! Imām Ahmad said: “Habīb Ibn Abi Habīb (a narrator in its chain) was a liar!”
“Indeed the wild animals used to fast on the day of ‘Āshūrā“
Collected by Ibnil Muqri’ in ‘Mu’jam Ibnil Muqri’ 2/359 as a paraphrased hadīth with a broken chain of narration and perhaps it is a reference to the following:
في أول يوم من رجب ركب نوح في السفينة فصام هو وجميع من معه، وجرت بهم السفينة ستة أشهر، فانتهى ذلك إلى المحرم، فاستوت السفينة على الجودي يوم عاشوراء، فصام نوح وأمر جميع من معه من الوحش والدواب فصاموا شكرا لله
“On the first day of (the month) of Rajab Nooh (Noah) embarked upon the Ark and he and all those with him fasted. The Ark sailed for six months which ended with Muharram, and the Ark settled upon (mount) Jūdi on the day of ‘Āshūrā. So Nūh fasted and he commanded those with him from wild animal and beast to fast, in order to give thanks to Allah“
Grade: Dha’īf Jiddan (Very weak): In its chain is Abdul Ghafūr Ibn Abdil ‘Azīz Al Wāsiti who is Abandoned. Imām Haithami said concerning him ‘He is abandoned in ‘Majma’ Az Zawā’id 3/188
“Whoever makes Ghusl on the day of ‘Āshūrā then he will never become ill other than the illness he dies from“
Grade: Fabricated: As Suyūti mentions it alongside a number of other narrations then says: “All of them are fabricated” see Al Lāli’ul Masnū’ah 2/93
“Indeed Allah created the heavens and earth on the day of ‘Āshūrā
Grade: Fabricated: Abul Mahāsin Al Qawqaji mentions in Al lu’lu’ul Marsū’ 1/54: “Fabricated“”
“Whosoever fasts on the day of ‘Āshūrā will be given the reward of ten thousand Angels“
“Whoever fasts of the day of ‘Āshūrā will be given the reward of Hajj and Umrah, and whoever fasts on the day of ‘Āshūrā will be given the reward of the inhabitants of the heavens and that which is within them from the angels. Whoever has a believer break fast with him on the day of ‘Āshūrā then it is as though the whole of the Ummah of Muhammad (ﷺ) has broken fast with him. Whosoever feeds and satisfies a hungry person on the day of ‘Āshūrā then it is though he has fed (all of) the poor people of the Ummah of Muhammad (ﷺ) and satisfied their stomachs. Whosoever rubs the head of an orphan on the day of ‘Āshūrā, he will be raised a level in paradise for each hair upon his head”
Grade: Fabricated: Ibnil Jauzi mentions it in his book on fabricated hadeeth ‘Al maudhū’āt’ 2/202 and Al Kanāni mentions it in ‘Tanzīh ash Shariatil Marfū’ah’ 2/163 and says “In it is Habīb Ibn Abi Habīb! (The well-known fabricator)
“There is no Servant (of Allah) that cries on the day Hussain was killed i.e the day of ‘Āshūrā except that on the day of judgement he will be with the firmly intentioned Messengers“
Grade: Fabricated: Imām Ash Shawkāni Mentions it in Al Fawā’id Al Majūo’ah 1/440 and says: “..”Fabricated, and similarly that which has been narrated concerning crying on the day of ‘Āshūrā being perfect light on the day of judgement it too is fabricated. It was fabricated by the rāfidhah (Shia). Imām Adh Dhahabi said concerning it: Indeed these fabrications were brought about by this ignorant Mūsā (a reference to Jalālud deen Musā Ibn Mujalā)
